How to Brew Tea

Brewing the perfect cup of tea maximizes both flavor and health benefits. Each tea type requires a slightly different preparation, but mastering these three essential steps will ensure a consistently delicious result.

Step #1: Measuring

You can use a scoop to measure tea to start, but we recommend graduating to weighing out your tea as soon as possible. Since the density of tea leaves differs, the amount of tea is key. If you can weigh your tea, then remember to use sensitive scales that measure small amounts. You will quickly find the perfect weight for each tea to achieve the perfect brew. If you start with scoops, you will know whether you like a heaped or scant spoon.

Step #2: Water Temperature

Different teas need to be steeped at different temperatures. The water temperature controls how much caffeine and how many polyphenols are released into your drink. Refer to the guide below and if possible, a thermometer or a temperature-controlled hot water kettle for precision.

IMPORTANT TIPS: Use only filtered water (not mineral or high-alkaline water). Also, always start with freshly heated water because it contains more oxygen and fewer contaminants. Avoid reheating water for tea, as it can increase the concentration of contaminants.

Step #3: Steeping Time

Once you have the correct amount of tea and the perfect water temperature for that type, set a timer for the ideal steeping time. And don’t forget what we said earlier! If you steep for too long, your tea may taste bitter because of the excess polyphenols and contain too much caffeine.
